Moxie Bread Co.

After five years of runaway success—both locally and in the national media—Moxie Bread Co. founder Andy Clark was planning to open a North Boulder flour mill to complement his beloved Louisville bakery. Yet his out-of-date website didn’t represent the quality of his award-winning loaves, nor his larger ambitions for the heirloom grain movement.

We had previously worked with Clark on a number of editorial pieces for food publication Life & Thyme, and were thrilled for the opportunity to tell his story in a dynamic website format. Our plan was to create a clean, modern digital presence that reflected the warm hospitality of the Moxie team—while also spotlighting the awards, honors and overarching mission of the bakery. In addition to crafting a streamlined sitemap, fresh brand story and engaging photography, we also prioritized the inclusion of common FAQs—ensuring the website not only sold the story of Moxie, but also provided the leadership team with more time to focus on growing their ambitious operations.

The Opportunity

From day-to-day business to media accolades, Moxie Bread Co. already had gained an impressive following. Yet their outdated website had not evolved to match the bakery’s award-winning reputation. For those who had never visited the bakery, showcasing founder Andy Clark’s unique commitment to both organic, heirloom grains and homegrown community events helped to further expand the reach of the Moxie brand.

The Challenge

With the opening of two additional Moxie business ventures in Boulder, clearly communicating the different offerings at each location was as important as capturing the magic of what makes Moxie’s mission so unique. From baked goods and local mercantile offerings, to a rapidly-growing wholesale mill and flour operation, we strove to succinctly, yet effectively tie together the various elements of the Moxie business model for a wide range of different audiences.

The Mission

While artisanal baking methods have always been central to Moxie’s business model, founder Andy Clark’s growing role in the regional heirloom grain movement had evolved the core mission for the brand. In addition to approachable, consumer-facing content regarding these nutrient-rich grains, we were charged with developing a dedicated web page for the Mill Site, Clark’s non-profit, 501(c)3 wholesale mill in North Boulder.

THOUGHTS FROM THE CLIENT

“Lauren & Carly are the most amazing individuals, so when it came time to redesign our website, it was an obvious decision to partner with Cognoscenti Creative. All communications were efficient, responsive and effective. We're extremely proud of our website design and honored to have worked with them!”
