Spotlight on Digital Storytelling

Looking back over the past year, there’s one primary trend we’ve seen in our business. While we continue to work on a wide range of creative services, websites have become one of our most frequent requests, as our clients’ digital presence has replaced their in-person meetings and physical storefronts.

Yet even if this pandemic had not happened, one of the most effective investments any business owner can make is to create a professional website that tells their unique story. In addition to elevating brand awareness and perceived expertise, a truly effective website can help proactively answer customer questions (see: less emails and calls!) and even dramatically increase sales.

Our website design process looks a little different than other agencies, because we believe the secret to a strong website is, first and foremost, the content. That’s why, before we ever lay a finger on the design and layout, we refine and finalize all the copy, photography and other assets that will tell your story. We also find that beginning with content helps to create a more user-friendly website experience, ensuring that design decisions are rooted in functionality, as well as aesthetics.

With several new website projects under our belt—and more to come!—we look forward to further developing this essential service for our clients. If you’ve been thinking about a refresh for your own site, or have a friend who could use some help, we’d love to be in touch.

Cognoscenti Creative Christine Chitnis

COPYWRITING + WEBSITE DESIGN
Client: Christine Chitnis | Providence, RI

As a photographer, journalist and four-time author, Christine had already cultivated a significant online following. However, few of her publishing peers or Instagram followers were aware of her work as a book proposal and publicity consultant. We first connected when Christine was looking to integrate the strategic and creative sides of her business, but was struggling to reimagine her website sitemap and content. By envisioning her work not as two separate businesses, but as a complementary range of services, we were able to establish a single online presence that not only represents the full breadth of Christine’s work, but weaves it into a cohesive brand narrative. The result is a polished, impressive online presence that better reflects her accomplishments and multifaceted skill set.

Cognoscenti Creative Zinnia Sun Shades

COPYWRITING, PHOTOGRAPHY + WEBSITE DESIGN
Client: Zinnia Sun Shades | Brookline, MA

With more than twenty years’ experience as a product designer (and beachgoer!), Zinnia founder AJ Kassenaar was uniquely qualified to reimagine the substandard umbrellas and pop-up tents commonly used for sun protection. After spending years designing a truly innovative product, she was seeking support in marketing and selling her sun shades direct-to-consumer. We joined this project as AJ was working toward a formal 2021 launch, crafting core messaging and executing two lifestyle photoshoots to help establish her storytelling strategy. From there, we redesigned the brand’s website to both emphasize Zinnia’s design innovation and to anticipate common customer questions, with the ultimate goal of driving sales.

COPYWRITING, WEBSITE DESIGN + SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGY
Client: Q House | Denver, CO

Over the last year, Q House chef and founder Christopher Lin had shifted from a mostly in-person business model to primarily serving takeout. With a resume that included stints in some of New York City’s best kitchens, Chris had a fascinating background, but his current website didn’t tell that story. By refreshing core messaging and creating a customer-focused FAQ page—in addition to modernizing the website’s overall aesthetic—we were able to elevate Q House’s online presence to drive business during the pandemic. We also executed a social media audit and strategy session with Chef Chris and his team, to help create a sustainable strategy for continuing to share his story and engage with his customer base.
